Ship battles are pretty epic (I prefer them in Fall of the Samurai). Also the prize money system can actually gain you a fair bit of money if used correctly.Įmpire Total War is pretty epic, the campaign map is huge, it's actually 3 large maps that are connected (North/Central america/Carribean, Europe, India), it is in the era of the musket so battles are all massive lines with cannons. It was actually a really fun change of pace. My most recent campaign as Britain I actually had a primarily sea based strategy, focusing more on trade spheres and sea power than land conquest. It is especially intense when the line ahead formations devolve into a fighting melee.Īgain though, I am super into the era and have a background knowledge of how naval warfare was typically fought so that usually helps in TW games.
Once both fleets engaged though I found them both fast paced and unique as each fleet maneuvers to get more broadsides off on the other one. I would agree that CA made the maps a fair bit too large, so you have to fast forward the first bit where both fleets maneuver to try and get the weather-gauge. I would like to respectfully disagree with a straight reduction in options, though if your plan was to simply sail at the enemy until within cannon range, then yes that would be thwarted by lack of wind.
